That Luis Barragan's aesthetic is the child of his native Mexican vernacular is something I have wondered about since I fell in love with his work when I was a student. I discovered these beautiful images taken on Isla Holbox off the Mexican Yucatan peninsula. They bear witness to the way his architecture sat cheek-by-jowl with the folk-architecture of his homeland. (See Barragan's architecture in my earlier blog the contemplative colours of Luis Barragan).
