Andrew Squire's mysterious paintings

Over time I've gone overboard  for Andrew Squire's paintings. On first sight they're naively simple, wonderfully cheerful, and they make me smile. But they've been called 'deceptively simple', and I couldn't agree more because it's what happens next that I find so interesting.  You begin to notice that there's always a mist, a fog, and like any foggy day you never know quite what's out there, just beyond your vision. Sometimes those things that are lost in the mist are just lightly shown, sometimes they're all in the mind. Either way the result is a fantastic sense of unthreatening mystery.   (Andrew Squire's work is available through Thompson's Galleries.)
